If so many depressed people end their lives or, generally don’t do well in life…. Shouldn’t humanity be evolving away from it? Like you would think we would have gotten rid of depression if it is a chemical process. Not through any effort of our own, but sheer iteration.
Is it possible that we largely misunderstand the nature of depression? What if it’s much more environmental than we think? The statistics show that intelligent people are more likely to be depressed. Isn’t it more likely that evolution has trended towards more intelligence? Increased depression would then be an unavoidable side effect.
